I love this picture of Kevin! This is Kevin. This is also another photo by the great photographer, Matthew Filar.
Kevin was a closer in baseball. When he pitched he saw it as a personal battle with the batter. This person, this batter had the audacity to step into the batter's box in HIS game. He was so intense when on the mound. What follows is a quote from one of the board members of the Crab organization at a life celebration held at the Crabs baseball stadium after Kevin died:
To say that Kevin loved baseball does not even begin to describe his approach to the game. Kevin's appetite for baseball, indeed his appetite for life was simply ferocious. He died three weeks after the end of the 2007 season of severe brain injuries suffered in a skateboard accident, a victim of his incredible lust for living his life to the fullest, and his unfailing belief in his own phenomenal gifts as an athlete. When called to the mound to close down the opposition or to put out a fire, Kevin did not stroll to the rubber. He did not trot. He did not jog. He sprinted – full tilt – all the way. He was...well...ferocious."

This t shirt was the first 5K walk/run tshirt. The picture is one taken by photographer, Matthew Filar. It shows Kevin sitting on the mound with a very large grin on his face. The photo was snapped right after a streaking ground ball was hit right back at Kevin. His efforts to try to catch the ball and also avoid the line drive resulted in him landing firmly on the mound on his rump.
This is also the first t shirt that featured the word, Arâte. This was a word that Kevin was very found of and it showed up regularly on the inside of his baseball cap bills and gloves.
Kevin played his final summer of baseball with the Humboldt Crabs team in Arcata, CA.

This is another photo, taken by Matthew Filar, of Kevin during his days with the Humboldt Crabs baseball team. It shows a picture of Kevin hugging a fellow player after closing a game. For those of you who knew Kevin you know that he was always quick with a smile, hug or kiss. The tshirt also features one of his favorite colors – orange.
Kevin loved playing in Arcata, CA. He would take pictures of the ball park in Arcata and send them to me. The stadium has its own band, the world famous Crab Grass Band. The coffee shop that Kevin visited would make a picture of a baseball in the foam in the top of Kevin's coffee! He loved the stadium, the fans, the coaches, the pizza, the beaches, the forest – everything about Arcata.
Kevin was always amazed at his luck of finding another team to play with that had fans as passionate about baseball as the Post 22 fans in Rapid City, SD.

This tshirt featured the front page shot of the website,
www.HeroesRipple.org. This is a website that I launched after losing Kevin in 2007. The amazing people of Asio Studio created this wonderful site. I loved this t shirt because it promotes a site that I think offers a great service to grieving people, the opportunity of community. The funds generated from the run helped offset the expenses of the website.
It is the only tshirt that does feature a picture of Kevin and I did get a lot of feedback from participants that they wanted a picture of Kevin on the shirts.
